North Idaho health agency raises concerns over kratom’s safety

A North Idaho health agency is joining voices against kratom, a legal herbal drug available at gas stations nationwide.

Kratom is often marketed as a relaxing medicine, but at high doses, it can mimic the effects of opioids. Kootenai County officials have reported that the drug has been linked to recent deaths.

Meanwhile, Spokane is in the process of deciding on regulations for kratom.
