NINE MILE FALLS, Wash. – Peggy Boyd is seeking justice after her paint horse, Clancy, was fatally shot in the head during the night. This incident has left Boyd devastated and searching for answers.

Boyd, who had previously decided against riding after an accident, found solace in Clancy. “It’s still real hard just to talk about what happened,” Boyd said.

The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the suspicious death of Clancy. Boyd reached out to NonStop Local for help in solving the mystery of who could have shot her horse. “To ever think that someone deliberately or accidentally shoots your horse right in the kill spot on their head and they’re dead it was very heartbreaking and he was my heart horse, my unicorn,” she said.

Washington State law classifies this act as first-degree animal cruelty, a Class C felony. “I just don’t understand how anybody could even think of doing something like that,” Boyd added.

Officers reported that Clancy, despite being shot in the temple, managed to make it part of the way home before passing out, as indicated by blood trails. Boyd expressed her disbelief, saying, “you just don’t think it’s gonna happen to you and I just hope it doesn’t happen to anybody else.”

Clancy has been buried on Boyd’s property, and she hopes the shooter will come forward. “Whoever was shooting that morning, would just come forward and do what’s right because it isn’t right,” Boyd stated.

Law enforcement was unable to find information on the shooter through neighbors’ security footage. They are asking anyone with tips to call Crime Check at (509) 456-2233.
