NEZ PERCE RESERVATION, Idaho — The Nez Perce Tribal Police are addressing misinformation circulating online regarding their involvement with federal immigration authorities.

Chief Mark Bensen clarified that the Nez Perce Tribal Police have not been contacted by any federal agency to assist with immigration and have not seen ICE in the area.

“The Nez Perce Tribal Police will not assist in the detainment or arrest of a Nez Perce Tribal Sovereign Citizen,” Bensen said.

He urged community members to provide their Federal Nez Perce Tribal Identification or State Identification to verify their enrollment status if contacted.

The Nez Perce Tribal Police have the most current enrollment information and are committed to determining an individual’s enrollment status thoroughly.

Bensen assured the community that the Nez Perce Tribal Police remain vigilant in protecting the community and its sovereignty.

This statement aims to dispel rumors and ensure that the community is informed and at ease.
