New laws impacting Washington State residents

WASHINGTON STATE – Several new laws are set to take effect in Washington State, impacting various aspects of daily life. Starting July 1, the gas tax will increase by six cents and will continue to rise 2 percent each year to adjust for inflation.

Additionally, changes will be made to the capital gains tax and estate tax, with a new rate structure depending on the amount involved.

Another law will make it illegal to use a person’s immigration status against them in the workplace, ensuring fair treatment for all employees.

On July 27, a new regulation will require companies with 50 or more employees to provide a 60-day notice of any mass layoffs. This aims to give workers ample time to prepare for potential job loss.
