New housing project in Spokane County clears regulatory hurdle

SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. – As Spokane County grapples with a housing shortage, the Victory Heights project recently cleared a regulatory hurdle. The project, located just south of Thorpe and west of 195, aims to build 2,000 homes in the area.

Developers received the green light for the construction of a roundabout at the intersection of Grove and Thorpe Road. This progress is a result of a new agreement between the city and the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT). Spokane County will help fund part of this construction.

Despite this advancement, concerns over insufficient infrastructure in the neighborhood remain. The Victory Heights project is moving forward, but its counterpart, the Latah Park development, is currently on hold due to a moratorium. The Latah Park project plans to construct an additional 1,000 homes.

Local authorities and developers continue to navigate these challenges as they work to address the region’s housing needs.
