New development to bring apartments and shops to Colbert community

COLBERT, Wash. – A significant development project called “The Village at Midway” is breaking ground near Midway Elementary in Colbert. This $200 million venture aims to introduce a gas station, a boutique grocery store and a major apartment complex to the area.

The project is situated between North Hatch Road and Highway 395. While many community members are excited about the development, some express concerns about the impact more families could have on the community.

Diane Morgan, who lives across the street from the construction site, shared her perspective. “But it’s a dirt pit so it’s kind of nice to see something nice going there,” she said. “So I’m excited for that,” said Morgan.

The development plans include a Sinclair gas station and a luxury apartment complex with 665 new units. It also features plans for a “boutique grocery store.” Shasta Carlsen, another neighbor, expressed her thoughts on the project. “Maybe we’ll get a Trader Joe’s,” she said.

Carlsen, a parent, voiced concerns about the local schools. “Yeah we’ve been a mead family for a long time we specifically moved into that neighborhood for mead schools, and I just don’t want to see people pushed out if that and the affordability because there are so many houses going in not just at hatch but around the corner by midway as well-,” she said. “At this point we are over filling we are over crowding we just don’t have the space,” said Carlsen.

Traffic is another concern for the community. “The one thing I’m not excited for is the traffic,” said a neighbor. “And I just worry because traffic goes so fast on that road that all the kids walking I just am fearful that if there’s not a good plan that could get out of hand,” said a neighbor.

The project is being developed by Snow Development LLC, owned by the same family as Snow’s Auto on Division. Cary Snow, one of the developers, shared his excitement about the project. He referred to it as the “gem of apartment living in Spokane.”

Despite the excitement, neighbors remain cautious and are waiting in anticipation. “So I’m way more excited about what they’re putting in there now,” said a neighbor.

While the project has been in the works for years, there is no set completion date yet.
