New 15-year economic plan aims to boost Washington’s prosperity by 2040

SEATTLE – The Association of Washington Business and Washington Roundtable announced a new economic vision for the state, called Washington in the Making 2040.

With input from more than 4,200 Washingtonians through surveys and town hall meetings, the strategy focuses on workforce development, fostering business growth, enhancing infrastructure and preserving quality of life, the Association of Washington Business (AWB) said in a release.

“Now more than ever it’s important that we have a long-range plan for our state economy,” said AWB President Kris Johnson. “We know that we face a host of challenges, from a housing shortage and workforce gaps to a high cost and regulatory environment for entrepreneurs. How will we address those challenges? What do we want our state and the communities we call home to look like in 15 years?”

AWB said the plan will guide discussions at Solution Summits, aligning with the vision’s goals. Progress will be tracked with a dashboard monitoring 36 economic indicators.
