SPOKANE, Wash. – On Thursday, Netflix announced the development of a new series based on the novel “So Far Gone” by Spokane author Jess Walter.

The adaptation will be handled by Mark Bomback, known for “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” and “Defending Jacob,” according to Netflix’s news website, Tudum.

The novel’s plot follows a reclusive journalist who must rescue his grandchildren from their extremist father, embarking on a road trip through a fractured America after the 2016 election.

Walter is set to executive produce the series alongside multiple producers from Tomorrow Studios, Netflix reported.

“Jess Walter is one of the great American storytellers, and ‘So Far Gone’ is a propulsive, deeply humane novel that feels both urgent and timeless,” executive producers Liz Garbus and Dan Cogan said.
