Netflix finale draws millions for theaters with unique ticketing

Theaters earned at least $25 million from the finale of a Netflix series shown on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, according to Variety. The final episode premiered simultaneously on Netflix and in about 600 theaters.

Due to contractual terms, Netflix couldn’t charge for tickets. Instead, fans reserved seats by purchasing concession vouchers from the theater.

This isn’t the first time Netflix has ventured into theaters. Last summer, there was a special sing-along event for “KPOP Demon Hunters.”
