Mt. Spokane ski conditions require creativity amid low snowfall

MEAD, Wash. – Ski resorts across the Inland Northwest, including Mt. Spokane, have experienced less than ideal conditions this season due to limited snowfall.

Jim van Loben Sels, the general manager of Mt. Spokane Ski and Snowboard Park, indicated that a storm bringing four to six inches of snow would improve current conditions. However, more snow would be needed to open additional terrain.

Despite the challenges, van Loben Sels maintained that there are still opportunities for enjoyment at local mountains.

“The bottom line is you have to be creative. You have to be willing to think outside the box, and I think all of us as operators, you’ve got to look at the bottom line, but you’ve also got to make it fun and realize that there’s still some great things to come out of it. You just have to be creative and adapt,” he said.

Van Loben Sels expressed hope for more snow in the future. He also encouraged visitors to spend a day at the mountain, enjoy a few runs and support the lodge by purchasing food and drink during this challenging season.
