Mountain West Food Group, LLC is recalling about 2,855 pounds of raw ground beef due to potential E. coli O26 contamination, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).

The affected product was produced on Dec. 16, 2025, and includes 16-oz. vacuum-sealed packages of “FORWARD FARMS GRASS-FED GROUND BEEF” with “USE OF FREEZE BY 01/13/26 EST 2083” printed on the side.

The recalled beef was sent to distributors in California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Pennsylvania and Washington for retail sales.

FSIS discovered the issue during routine testing, revealing the presence of E. coli O26. No illnesses have been confirmed yet, but those concerned should contact a healthcare provider.

E. coli O26 can cause diarrhea and vomiting. Most recover within a week, but severe cases can occur, especially in young children, older adults and those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms like easy bruising, pallor and decreased urine output require immediate medical care.

FSIS warns that some of the product may still be in consumers’ homes. Consumers are advised not to eat the recalled beef and to dispose of it or return it to the place of purchase.

For more information, FSIS will post retail distribution lists on their website.
