MOUNT RAINIER, Wash. – Search crews have recovered the bodies of two climbers at Mount Rainier National Park.

A spokesperson for the National Parks stated that rangers began their search on Sunday after the climbers did not return as expected on Saturday.

The climbers’ vehicle was discovered in the Paradise parking lot on the mountain’s south side, rangers reported.

Later that day, crews spotted two non-moving figures approximately 9,000 feet up the mountain near Wilson Glacier.

Adverse weather conditions initially prevented a helicopter from reaching the location. However, on Tuesday, ground teams successfully reached the glacier and discovered the bodies of the two climbers.

The bodies were recovered and transported to the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office.
