
SPOKANE, Wash. – The mother of Glen Burkey, the man accused of shooting that killed a 13-year-old boy in Spokane, has been arrested for allegedly helping him flee to Montana.
According to a press release from the Spokane Police Department, 49-year-old Becky Gibbs was taken into custody on a charge of first-degree rendering criminal assistance. Investigators said Gibbs, Burkey’s mother, allegedly took steps to help her son leave the state following the January shooting. She is currently being held at the Spokane County Jail.

The charges stem from a Jan. 25 incident in the Hillyard neighborhood, where 13-year-old Gavin Looper was killed while playing video games inside a home. According to court documents, a bullet entered through the back door and struck Looper in the head.
After the shooting, . He is being held on a $4 million bond and is scheduled to return to court for arraignment on March 18.
Under Washington state law, a conviction for first-degree murder carries a mandatory sentence of life imprisonment.
