Moses Lake school closure leads to adjustments for students and staff

MOSES LAKE, Wash. – An electrical issue led to the closure of Groff Elementary School for the remainder of the 2024-25 school year. The decision was also influenced by other construction-related issues discovered in the building.

This move was deemed necessary from a safety standpoint. Following the closure, students and staff were relocated to other schools within the district. The transition required time for adjustment.

“We have some hardworking very resilient staff that are in it for the right reason which is we’re in this to educate the students of the Moses Lake School District,” stated a district representative.

The closure marked a significant change for everyone involved. The district emphasized that despite the frustration, the priority remains the education and well-being of the students.

To address the situation, the district is collecting data from staff, students, and their families through surveys. This feedback will help in planning how to proceed without Groff Elementary this school year.
