The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (DFW) announced that the modern firearm general deer hunting season opens on Saturday, October 11.

DFW officials urged hunters to read through the latest regulations before the start of the season. These regulations include the most recent protocols issued to limit the spread of chronic wasting disease, and can be found online.

In addition to the latest rules and regulations, the Washington DFW advised hunters to be aware of local conditions before embarking on a hunt, and to remain up to date on information provided by landowners. With the current government shutdown in effect, officials added that public access could be limited on certain federally managed lands and hunters should check the latest information from federal land managers’ websites.

Finally, the DFW stated that with large wildfires continuing to burn in Washington state, hunters should remain cautious and always stay informed by checking the Washington Department of Natural Resources website for updates.
