Missing huckleberry picker found after ‘extensive’ search near Chewelah

CHEWELAH, Wash. — Officials found a missing huckleberry picker with dementia after an urgent and extensive search in the Red Marble area near Chewelah on Wednesday.

Both the Stevens County Sheriff’s Office and the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife Police posted about the incident on Facebook.

The sheriff’s office said the 75-year-old woman was reported missing shortly after 11 a.m., at which point she had been missing for about four hours. Sheriff’s deputies responded and fish and wildlife police and U.S. Border Patrol volunteered to help with the search.

The woman was found in good condition shortly after 6 p.m.
