WASHINGTON STATE – New changes to state law are set to take effect in 2026, impacting minimum wage and employee benefits.
The minimum wage will rise to $17.13 per hour starting January 1.
The state’s paid family and medical leave program will also see adjustments. The minimum amount of time an employee must miss in a week to qualify for paid leave will decrease from eight hours to four.
Additionally, employees will now be eligible for job protection if they have worked for at least six months before their leave begins. Previously, a year of employment was required.
Washington’s child support standards will also expand with the new year.
These changes aim to provide more support and protection for workers across the state.
