WASHINGTON, D.C. – Members of the U.S. Olympic men’s hockey team arrived in the capital on Tuesday ahead of President Trump’s State of the Union address, to which he invited the team after they won gold on Sunday.
The women’s hockey team, who also won gold, declined the invitation citing schedule conflicts. However, the announcement came after the president joked over the phone with the men’s team that he’d “have to” invite their female peers or risk impeachment.
Both teams secured their gold medals in overtime games against Canada.
Trump’s State of the Union address is expected to begin at 9:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, 6:00 p.m. Pacific Standard Time and will air on NonStop Local KHQ.
