IDAHO – Open enrollment for Medicare begins on October 15, but for Idaho residents, there may be changes to their coverage for 2026. Some may even lose their plans entirely. The Idaho Department of Insurance says those that use Medicare should verify their coverage now.
NonStop Local reached out to two of the companies set to change or stop their Medicare coverage.
“Cost pressures due to changes in federal policy and increased claims have forced many payers to exit markets across the nation. Those same forces are behind Regence BlueShield of Idaho’s difficult decision to discontinue offering Medicare Advantage plans to our customers for 2026,” said a representative from Regence BlueShield. “We are committed to helping our members navigate to alternate plans that best serve their needs in 2026.”
Regence’s decision will impact about 6,000 Idahoans.
Blue Cross of Idaho also commented on the situation. “Blue Cross of Idaho is not immune to national trends, and like other carriers across Idaho, we are facing increases in utilization and the overall cost of care. These changes were not easy to make,” said a spokesperson from Blue Cross. “Idaho seniors still have choice in the MA market, and we encourage them to contact a broker now to choose a new Medicare plan and prescription drug coverage.”
The Idaho Department of Insurance says that those set to lose their plan will be allowed extra time to select a new one or return to the standard Medicare program.
