Mechanical issue blamed for lockdown at Hayden Meadows Elementary

COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho – What looked like a security scare was actually a mechanical issue that forced the lockdown at Hayden Meadows Elementary School Monday morning.

Coeur d’Alene Public Schools says a mechanical issue triggered the school’s safety protocols, which contacted law enforcement and put students and staff into lockdown.

Law enforcement responded and checked the school, determining there was no threat.

By mid-morning, the school returned to normal operations.

“We understand that situations like this can be unsettling,” the district said in a letter to families. “The safety of our students and staff is always our top priority. We are grateful for the quick response from law enforcement and for the calm, professional way our staff and students handled the situation.”
