Measles exposure confirmed in Spokane County

SPOKANE, Wash. — Public health officials confirmed a measles infection in a Kootenai County resident who visited Providence Sacred Heart Emergency Departments while contagious.

Potential exposure occurred Saturday, March 14, from 12:48 p.m. to 5:52 p.m., and Sunday, March 15, from 10:41 a.m. to 4:53 p.m., at the hospital’s emergency departments.

The Spokane Regional Health District said the risk to the general public is low but encourages everyone to verify they are current with the measles, mumps and rubella vaccine.

“Measles is a serious contagious disease, and the message is absolutely critical that if you or your child is not vaccinated, you need to get vaccinated,” said Dr. Francisco Velázquez, SRHD health officer.

Anyone experiencing measles symptoms — high fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes and rash — who believes they may have been exposed should contact their healthcare provider.
