
McCormick & Company, famous for its widely accessible fleet of spices and seasonings, has unveiled that its 2026 “Flavor of the Year” is black currant, predicting a significant rise in the flavor’s popularity.
“Since 2000, the McCormick Flavor Forecast has has identified the global trends shaping the future of flavor, from chipotle and pumpkin pie spice to ube and Korean BBQ,” according to the company’s website.
The spice-maker anticipates that black currants will start to appear more frequently on menus and shelves across the country.
McCormick describes the berry as having a “tart-yet-sweet taste and versatility.”
Black currant, with its origins in Europe and Central Asia, is most commonly incorporated into jams and cocktails in the U.S.
The announcement is part of McCormick’s annual report on dining trends.
McCormick doesn’t sell any black currant spices as of now, but they might be on the market soon.
