UPDATE: June 14, 2025 11:14 a.m.

Spokane Mayor Lisa Brown uploaded a post to her personal Facebook expressing her hopes for Pride celebrations, her support for the declared goal of the No Kings rallies and her thoughts on Wednesday’s protests in support of the two men detained by ICE.

This came after a statement she made as mayor published by the City of Spokane.

“Today is our annual celebration of Pride in Spokane. I have been attending since the first march and rally in 1992,” she started in the post from her personal account.

She continued, expressing hope that the celebration would be “a joyful celebration of love and freedom for our LGBTQ+ friends, families and communities.”

She also expressed personal agreement with the declared goal of the No Kings rallies that will be held in Spokane, which aim to protest Trump administration policies and overreach of executive power.

She called the Trump administration’s deployment of the California national guard and US Marines into Los Angeles over the objections of California Mayor Karen Bass a “real and growing threat” and a federal overreach.

She also expressed sadness and frustration about the detention of the two men and for the communities living in fear.

She said that after she heard of their cases, she has been engaged in conversation about legal strategies to free them.

“I respect the perspective and experiences of individuals who participated or observed the protest . Knowing so many of those people personally, I do not question their motives or right to peacefully protest or express their views,” she added.

She ended encouraging people to “make today a celebration of freedom love and democracy in Spokane that we all can be proud of.”
