SHELTON, Wash. – A black-tailed doe in Mason County was spotted with a child’s swim vest around her neck, prompting action from Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) conflict specialist Ryan McNiff.
WDFW said McNiff successfully immobilized the doe and removed the vest, allowing her to reunite with her fawn.
Despite McNiff’s decision to free the deer from the vest, WDFW urges people not to touch or try to help wildlife in need.
It is illegal to hold or care for wildlife without a permit. Improper handling can worsen the situation, WDFW said.
