Man wearing an Amazon vest caught stealing Spokane family’s packages, left-behind box was also reported stolen

SPOKANE, Wash. – A Spokane family experienced a brazen act of theft when a man disguised in an Amazon-style delivery vest stole their packages in broad daylight. Joanna and Dane Francis were away visiting family in Missouri when the incident occurred at their South Hill home.

Their daughter arrived Tuesday afternoon to bring their packages inside but found only a small, already opened box on the porch. Dane Francis said he had seen the packages on their doorbell camera just two hours earlier, and when he checked again, all of them were gone.

The Francises reviewed their doorbell camera footage and discovered a man wearing a blue Amazon-style vest. He was seen carrying a package that wasn’t theirs and swapping it with every other box at their doorstep. Joanna Francis said the act felt like a break-in, even without forced entry, saying “Even though he didn’t break in, he still broke in. That’s our house. If you’re not invited up on my porch, you can’t be there.”

The package left behind was addressed to a woman on West Wellesley Avenue. Her husband, Don Davis, confirmed it had been stolen from their home shortly after a delivery. Davis told NonStop Local he saw a man jump into the passenger side of an unmarked car with no lights on the back before it drove off. He said the theft at his home appeared to involve two people — one driving and one grabbing the package within moments of the delivery truck leaving.

Joanna and Dane Francis lost more than $400 in gifts, including presents for their children. They were able to refund the stolen items but said the biggest loss was their sense of security. Joanna said, “It’s a violation of privacy. This is our home…”

NonStop Local reached out to Amazon, FedEx and Spokane Police for comment but has not received responses. The Francis family hopes someone recognizes the thief, who showed his entire face in the footage.
