Man sentenced to 15 months in jail, 18 months of community custody for drive-by shooting

Randall Goodwin entered a guilty plea on November 24, 2025 and was sentenced the same day.

Goodwin was sentenced to 15 months in jail and 18 months of community custody for his charges of second degree assault, second degree unlawful possession of a firearm and his extensive history of domestic violence, vehicular assault, attempt to allude and more.

SPOKANE, Wash. – A man is in court on Thursday following a reported drive-by shooting on June 4.

An affidavit states the victim was driving on Sanson Avenue to check on his daughter. As the victim was approaching his daughter’s house, he spotted Randall Godwin, who is reportedly dating the victim’s daughter, in a car nearby.

Court documents state the victim then asked Godwin, “Hey, are you Joe?” After the victim asked this question, the victim said Godwin pointed a pistol at him and began shooting. The victim reportedly tried to duck down and drive away. Godwin drove off in the same direction. The victim said he followed Godwin for a while before deciding to go to work and calling the police.

An officer spotted Godwin near Nora Avenue and Madison Street and arrested him. During a search, the officer found a small bag with a crystal substance that tested positive for meth.

Godwin is charged with assault, drive-by shooting, illegally possessing a gun, malicious mischief and possession of a controlled substance. He was previously convicted on eight separate felonies.
