SPOKANE, Wash. – In Spokane Superior Court, Michael Y. Feland, 41, was sentenced to 73 months in prison on December 15, 2025, after pleading guilty to felony assault involving strangulation.
Court documents revealed that in August, the victim was asleep in a vehicle in Spokane’s East Central area when Feland entered through an unlocked door. The victim, who had known Feland for a few months and recently entered a relationship with him, stated she awoke to find a cord wrapped around her neck.
Feland tightened the cord, causing her to lose consciousness. The assault ended when Feland left, and the victim sought help.
Judge Jacquelyn High-Edward took into account Feland’s high offender score and the severity of the crime. In addition to the prison sentence, Feland was given 18 months of community custody and ordered to have no contact with the victim for 10 years.
Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Katie Berish managed the case, with support from victim/witness advocates and the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office.
