AIRWAY HEIGHTS, Wash. – Brigham W. Van Wormer, 41, received a 20 year prison sentence in Spokane County Superior Court on eight sex crime charges involving three young victims.
The investigation into Van Wormer began in May 2023. His ex-girlfriend reported to authorities that he had sexually abused her children starting in 2018. At that time, the children were ten, nine and seven years old. The abuse occurred while they lived at a residence in Airway Heights.
In July 2023, Van Wormer was arrested and booked into the Spokane County Jail on several felony sex crime charges. He pleaded not guilty and was released on bail while awaiting trial.
The trial commenced in September 2025 and lasted more than two weeks.
The jury found Van Wormer guilty of one count of attempted rape of a child in the second degree, four counts of first-degree child molestation and three counts of second-degree child molestation.
Six of these counts included special verdicts, indicating that he used his position of trust to facilitate the crimes and demonstrated a pattern of ongoing abuse over a prolonged period.
