FERNAN LAKE VILLAGE, Idaho – A man was found dead inside a house in Fernan Lake Village on Wednesday morning, according to a press release from the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office.

KCSO said they received a 911 call at around 6:00 a.m. reporting that a tree had fallen onto a house on Theis Lane and trapped residents inside.

Emergency responders found the 55-year-old man inside a bedroom. KCSO said his death was “a result of the tree falling onto the home and striking the bed where he was sleeping.”

Fernan Lake Village is a suburb just east of Coeur d’Alene.

“The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office reminds residents that high winds can cause trees and debris to fall unexpectedly,” KCSO said. “During wind events, residents are encouraged to stay away from large trees, avoid sleeping near exterior walls when possible, and report hazardous conditions to local authorities.”
