LAPWAI, Idaho – Victor Gray, 53, is facing first-degree murder charges after being accused of shooting a man during a fight on his property, but he has claimed the shooting was done in self defense.
According to court documents, Gray’s girlfriend reported to police that the victim had been harassing them for several days. She claimed the harassment escalated on the day of the shooting when the victim allegedly trespassed on their property and struck her on the back of the head with a shovel.
Despite Gray’s claim of self-defense, two neighbors who witnessed the incident stated the shooting was unnecessary. They said the victim was beginning to back off when Gray reportedly shot him.
Gray is currently held in the Nez Perce County Jail with a bond set at $1 million. He is scheduled to return to court on June 4.
