Man arrested for eluding, crashing into police car after alleged drive-by shooting in Spokane

SPOKANE, Wash. – A 48-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday on multiple charges for fleeing and crashing into a police car after allegedly shooting a handgun from inside his truck.

According to a press release from the Spokane Police Department (SPD), police responded to a 911 call for a reported drive-by shooting near West Maxwell Avenue and North Howard Street. A person informed SPD that they saw a man fire a handgun from a black pickup truck, and additional calls reported sightings of a man “displaying a firearm in an alarming manner at various locations in west Spokane.”

Police located the truck downtown and attempted to stop the man. He fled the scene, leading to a brief chase.

SPD said the man then crashed his truck into an SPD patrol vehicle before crashing again “a short distance away.” He was arrested after attempting to flee on foot.

Carl W. Lindsey was booked into the Spokane County Jail for attempting to elude, felony hit and run and resisting arrest.

SPD said additional charges may be forthcoming.
