
BOZEMAN, Mont. — A man was arrested after allegedly breaking windows at several buildings on the Montana State University campus, causing an estimated $15,000 in property damage.
According to court documents, the alleged crimes occurred between 2:15 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. Sunday at Roskie Hall, South Hedges and Miller Dining Hall.
Police said that they responded around 7:15 a.m. to South Hedges to investigate a report of broken windows. Officers received a report of a suspicious man, later identified as Owen Steinmann.
Police said they located Steinmann inside one of the buildings where a window had been broken. He was found sleeping inside.
According to court documents, officers interviewed Steinmann and said he appeared to be intoxicated. Police said Steinmann admitted to breaking windows at South Hedges, and investigators later found video evidence showing him breaking into other areas around campus.
MSU Facilities estimated the damage at approximately $15,000.
Police said there is probable cause to charge Steinmann with felony criminal mischief. He was taken into custody and booked into the Gallatin County Detention Center, where he is being held without bond.
