Man accused of downtown stabbing arrested and charged

A man has been arrested and charged in connection to the August 7 stabbing near Post Street Bridge.

Colin L. Pedro, 20, was arrested Friday afternoon and charged shortly thereafter with assault and murder in the second degree, court documents revealed.

Police determined that the surviving victim had a romantic relationship with Pedro, according to a news release.

The investigation is ongoing, but there is no current danger to the community, police said. Anyone who witnessed the incident or recorded video of it is asked to call Crime Check at (509) 456-2233.

UPDATE: August 7, 2025 at 11:50 p.m.

Sergeant Teresa Fuller, Public Information Officer with the Spokane Police Department, reported that when officers first arrived at the scene near the 800 block of West Spokane Falls Boulevard, the male suspect was threatening suicide on the Post Street Bridge.

Resources called to the scene included SWAT, the Hostage Negotiation Team, Air Support Unit and Explosives Disposal Unit, in addition to American Medical Response, Avista and the Spokane Fire Department’s water rescue team.

A victim was found near the suspect with serious injuries, who later was pronounced dead at an area hospital. Another individual was injured during the incident, but is now stable, according to Sergeant Fuller.

At around 10:15 p.m., the Hostage Negotiation Team managed to de-escalate the situation, allowing officers to safely detain the suspect.

The incident remains under investigation. Anyone with video of the incident, who has not already shared it with police, is urged to contact Crime Check at 509-456-2233.

UPDATE: August 7, 2025 at 10:30 p.m.

The Spokane Police Department (SPD) reported that hostage negotiators have talked the suspect into custody.

One person was confirmed dead following the incident, according to SPD. However, no identities or motives have been released.

UPDATE: August 7, 2025 at 9:25 p.m.

The Spokane Police Department (SPD) first responded to the incident around 6:30 p.m., after receiving reports of an altercation.

After officers arrived on scene, the suspect positioned themself on a ledge near Summit Parkway and the Post Street Bridge. The suspect has been positioned there for over an hour, with police officers standing nearby.

According to a Nonstop Local team member at the scene, police handed the suspect a phone around 8:20 p.m. The suspect appears to have made a phone call, but still remains on the ledge.

Monroe Street has been closed down at College Avenue and Summit Parkway, in addition to closures just beyond the downtown end of the bridge, including West Spokane Falls Boulevard, North Lincoln Street and West Main Avenue.

SWAT, K-9 units, fire crews and multiple SPD units remain on scene as the suspect is still positioned on the bridge.

No information has been shared regarding how many people were involved in the stabbing, the identities of those people, or how law enforcement plans to proceed.

According to a spokesperson for the Spokane Police Department, the stabbing occurred Thursday evening near Spokane Falls Boulevard and Monroe Street.

Police said they could not comment on the condition of the victim but confirmed the suspect was located on the Post Street Bridge. The scene remains active.
