SEATTLE, Wash. — A man accused of carjacking a Washington State Patrol vehicle on Interstate 5 has been found incompetent to stand trial.

Alexander Smith, 24, was reportedly high on methamphetamine on Christmas Day when he was discovered walking on I-5 by a WSP lieutenant.

Video footage shows Smith pulling the lieutenant from her patrol car, taking control of the vehicle and leading officers on a chase.

King County Superior Court has ordered Smith to undergo mental health treatment.

The criminal case will be paused during Smith’s treatment. However, he is scheduled to return to court on April 30 to determine if he can stand trial.
