Main Avenue construction causes lane closures downtown

SPOKANE, Wash. — Drivers should prepare for traffic disruptions on Main Avenue downtown as crews begin a two-month construction project to repair the front of River Park Square.

The construction will close parking on the north side of Main Avenue from Lincoln to Post streets until mid-May. Two of the three traffic lanes will also be closed during the project, which is expected to wrap up in late April.

The work stems from an incident last May when a car crashed through the mall’s glass doors. Baker Construction crews will replace the damaged glass entrance, requiring the parking spots for their equipment storage.

City officials said crews will open a second lane of traffic when they are not actively working to help minimize disruptions.

Drivers are advised to seek alternative routes or allow extra travel time when navigating the downtown area during the construction period.
