Local organization offers free public transit training to help families save money

SPOKANE, Wash. — As gas prices continue to climb, a local organization is stepping in to help families find alternative transportation solutions through a new program offering free personalized training sessions for new public transit users.

The Independence Travel Training Program aims to remove barriers and reduce stigma around public transportation by providing hands-on learning experiences for community members.

The program teaches participants how to use public transit by taking them on practice rides from park-and-rides and transit centers to the Spokane Transit Authority Plaza and back.

Participants receive comprehensive support including a free bus pass, detailed route information, and access to transit apps to help them navigate the system independently.

While the program welcomes anyone interested in learning about public transportation, organizers say the training sessions are especially beneficial for several groups:

People who are new to the communityIndividuals with intellectual or developmental disabilitiesThose who have never used public transportSenior citizens

The free training sessions are scheduled to run throughout April. You can sign up for a training through this link.
