LIBERTY LAKE, Wash. – A suspect arrested for a series of construction site thefts in Liberty Lake was discovered to have been in possession of home-made explosives.
Now, Liberty Lake police, who believe there were more thefts than have been reported, are asking possible victims to share information.
Police were patrolling an area with several unprotected construction sites around 20900 E Indiana Avenue when they saw two adults in dark clothing riding bikes and wearing headlamps.
Because the officers knew the area had suffered recent thefts, they tried to contact the bikers, but the bikers fled, the Liberty Lake Police Department said.
One biker escaped, but the other one was detained by police at the scene.
The department said the biker who it detained admitted that the two of them had been in the area to steal construction equipment.
After placing the biker into custody, police found small, home-made explosives in his possession. The Spokane County Sheriff’s Department Explosives Disposal Unit responded to help safely dispose of the explosives.
The detained biker was booked into the Spokane County Jail.
The Liberty Lake Police Department asked people who may have been a victim or knows a victim of similar crimes in the area who hadn’t reported it yet to call Crime Check to file a report at 509-456-2233.
The investigation is ongoing.
