
LIBERTY LAKE, Wash. – The City of Liberty Lake is mourning the loss of former Mayor Shane Brickner, who passed away on November 8, at the age of 50 due to natural causes and cardiac arrest.
Brickner stepped down from his role as mayor five years ago due to health issues with his heart.
He was born on March 10, 1975, in Spokane, Washington, and lived a life marked by service and devotion to his family and community. He is survived by his three children, three grandchildren, parents, brother, sister and his wife. Shane was preceded in death by a brother.
His commitment to service was evident in his 15 years as a volunteer police officer. He began as a reserve officer for Liberty Lake on June 3, 2006, and served until December 31, 2019. Shane also joined the regional SWAT team in 2014, remaining until 2021.
Brickner’s dedication extended into public service. He served as mayor of Liberty Lake throughout 2020, a role he considered his favorite accomplishment.
Before becoming mayor, he served as a City Council member for eight years starting in 2012 and as mayor pro tem during his second four-year term.
The city said his passion for helping others was seen in his work in law enforcement and his involvement in running grief share programs. Brickner loved living adventurously, traveling widely and embracing life on the edge.
A celebration of Brickner’s life will be announced soon. His legacy of service and adventure will continue to inspire those who knew him.
