The Level 3, “GO NOW,” evacuation alert area has been exapnded for the Crown Creek Fire, Stevens County Emergency Management reported.
The alert area increased further south of Perterson Swamp Road and south of Randall.

According to the incident command team, the fire expanded significantly Wednesday on the east and south sides of the area.
It is one of three fires sparked by lightning. The Blackhawk Mountain Fire has burned 825 acres and is also 0% contained. The Katy Creek Fire, also caused by lightning, has reached 1,329 acres.
Officials said residents in the area should be prepared for possible evacuation changes. A red flag warning is in effect until 9 p.m. Thursday.
UPDATE: September 1 at 2:56 p.m.
A new update from Connor Nikkola, Public Information Officer with the Department of Natural resources, confirmed the Crown Creek Fire has grown to over 3,100 acres in size.
The Blackhawk Mountain Fire is burning 372 acres.
Nikkola also said it’s possible the two fires will merge sometime tonight or tomorrow.
Rough terrain as well as hot and dry conditions are making firefighting efforts difficult.
An estimated 125 structures and 170 people have been threatened and impacted by the fires.

The Crown Creek fire has grown to around 1,417 acres in size and remains 0% contained.
A press release from Northeast Washington Fire Information stated that fire activity significantly picked up Sunday, which extended evacuation areas.

UPDATE: August 31, 2025 at 6:55 p.m.
The American Red Cross has opened an emergency shelter in response to the Crown Creek Fire in Stevens County.
Residents in the area are urged to head to safety immediately. The shelter is located at the American Legion, 1057 US 395 N, Kettle Falls, WA 99141.
Red Cross responders are on site to provide essential assistance, including emergency shelter and food.
Evacuating residents are encouraged to bring necessary items such as prescription medications, extra clothing and important documents.
UPDATE: August 31, 2025 at 3:10 p.m.
State fire assistance has been mobilized to help battle the rapidly spreading Crown Creek Fire in Stevens County, according to a press release from the Washington State Fire Marshal’s Office.
The fire marshal’s office also confirmed the fire is estimated at 1,203 acres.
Level 1, 2 and 3 evacuations remain in place.

The Crown Creek Fire has grown to over 1,000 acres, according to Northeast Washington Fire Information. It remains 0% contained.
Over 400 personnel are involved in fire suppression efforts.
Evacuation orders are still in place for Marble and Onion Creek communities.
UPDATE: Aug. 30, 2025 at 8:44 p.m.
There are currently level 3 evacuations in place surrounding the Crown Creek Fire, according to Steven’s County Emergency Management.
Level 3 evacuations are located east of Hwy 25 from Johnson Grade Road and south past Onion Creed Road on Hwy 25.
Blackhawk fire has spread to approximately 25 acres, and Crown Creek has grown to over 100 acres.
Helicopters are active on Crown Creek while smoke jumpers have been deployed on Blackhawk.
Crown Creek area is currently in level 2 evacuation due to the rapid growth of the fire.
STEVENS COUNTY, Wash. – Level 1 alerts have been sent out for the Crown Creek, Blackhawk and Johnson Creek Fires, according to Stevens County Emergency Management. This alert is just to promote awareness.
The three fires are in hard-to-reach areas, wrote management, but people will see smoke if they are in the Northport, Marble or Onion Creek area.
Blackhawk Mountain Fire and Crown Creek Fire are assessed to only be 9 and 8.5 acres. Both are 0% contained.
Aircrafts are assisting and people are asked not to fly drones in the area.
