LEAVENWORTH, Wash. – A climber was successfully rescued after falling and breaking his ankle at Snow Creek Wall in Leavenworth on May 30, the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office said in a release.
Sheriff Mike Morrison said the Mountain Rescue crew, supported by a Chelan County Sheriff’s Office helicopter, reached the climber on the “Outer Space” route by descending from the top of the route.
They stabilized the injured man and lowered him 800 feet to a more accessible location before a U.S Army crew assisted with a helicopter hoist, transporting the climber to Pangborn Airport in East Wenatchee, Sheriff Morrison said.
Sheriff Morrison praised the nine hour rescue operation, thanking the teamwork demonstrated by the rescue teams involved, “A community where safety, justice and security are ensured for all through unwavering commitment to service.”
