Kootenai County prepares for Holidays and Heroes event in December

KOOTENAI COUNTY, Idaho – The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) announced on Friday that preparations for the 2025 Holidays and Heroes event, scheduled for early December, have begun.

The event aims to “bring joy to disadvantaged children” with the help of police, fire personnel, local businesses, civic groups and community members.

“While many will celebrate with their families, some face financial hardships that make it difficult to meet even basic needs. Holidays and Heroes aims to spread joy during this gift-giving season,” KCSO officials said.

The Holidays and Heroes program relies on monetary and food donations, which can be dropped off or delivered to the KCSO building at 2451 West Dakota Avenue in Hayden, Idaho.

Police officers, firefighters and support staff will use these donations to shop for gifts for disadvantaged children and their families. The presents, along with large food baskets created from the food donations, will be wrapped and delivered by the officers and firefighters.

KCSO officials also encouraged community members to donate food or cash at upcoming food drive events in Kootenai County.
