Kohberger trial may proceed as judge weighs defense’s delay request

BOISE, Idaho – The trial of Bryan Kohberger might continue as scheduled, as a judge deliberates on a defense motion to delay proceedings.

During a recent hearing, the defense argued for more time to prepare, citing extensive discovery and media coverage.

The defense emphasized the need for a continuance to protect Kohberger’s constitutional rights and ensure thorough preparation. Taylor highlighted the challenge of managing 68 terabytes of discovery and securing necessary records and witness testimonies.

The prosecution countered, saying that the defense has had enough time and resources, including access to 55 mitigation witnesses and 132 exhibits.

They argued that further delay is not necessary, noting that media coverage should not justify postponement.

Judge Hippler acknowledged the arguments from both sides and stated he would take the motion under advisement, but all parties should proceed as if the trial will occur as scheduled.

The judge’s decision is expected soon, determining whether the trial will proceed without further delay.
