
GRANT COUNTY, Wash. – A knife attack in unincorporated Mattawa left one man in the hospital and another in jail on New Year’s Eve.
The Grant’s County Sheriff’s Office learned about the fight around 11:45 p.m. and responded at the 15000 block of Road T.5-SW outside Mattawa.
They were told a 34-year-old and his adult roommate had a disagreement, which ended with the roommate swinging a knife at the 34-year-old and cutting his nostril.
Witnesses to the fight pulled the men apart, stopping the initial attack.
A short while later, the 34-year-old attacked his roommate with a knife and seriously wounded the man’s arm and injured his chest and hands.
In its announcement about the response, the Grant’s County Sheriff’s Office said the roommate was also hit in the head with a beer bottle, causing a head injury.
The 34-year-old was arrested and detained at the Grant County Jail for first-degree assault, domestic violence and threats to kill.
The roommate was sent to Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland. The sheriff’s office said once he was treated, they would send their report to the Grant County Prosecuting Attorney for possible charges of first-degree assault, domestic violence.
The investigation is still ongoing, according to the sheriff’s office.
