KITTITAS COUNTY, Wash. – The Kittitas County Jail (KCJ) has joined an elite group of facilities, becoming one of only eight jails in Washington to earn accreditation from the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs (WASPC).
This achievement was recognized on May 21, the Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) said in a release.
The accreditation process involved a thorough review of KCJ’s policies, records, and operations by independent professionals. KCJ met or exceeded 170 best practices for correctional institutions, including standards for training, communication, and security, KCSO said.
In a move to enhance health care, KCJ recently received a $209,000 grant from the Washington Health Care Authority. This funding will allow the hiring of an additional nurse, expanding medical coverage hours.
“Our community can be proud of the operation of its jail and the professionals who work in it,” KCSO stated.
Kittitas County is one of only five counties in Washington to have both Jail and Sheriff’s Office accreditation.
