UPDATE: October 27 at 9:05 p.m.
Washington State Patrol (WSP) troopers provided an update on the kitten they rescued last week.
The kitten, now known to be female, has been named Trooper by the agency.
During her initial checkup, a veterinarian discovered that Trooper had a broken leg.
Her new owner, Trooper Bolin, took her for a follow-up appointment where it was determined that her leg needed to be amputated.
Despite this setback, Trooper is recovering well and living up to her name.
She is adapting beautifully to her new environment and has settled in with her new furry siblings.
PIERCE COUNTY, Wash. – A kitten found itself in a precarious situation Wednesday morning on the left shoulder of southbound Interstate 5 near 96th St.
The Washington State Patrol received 911 calls reporting the feline in distress.
Trooper Bonner and Trooper Fath quickly responded to the scene. They discovered the kitten hiding beneath a concrete barrier.
After rescuing the kitten, one of the troopers transported him to a veterinary hospital for a check-up.
Following the vet’s examination, a trooper in the district volunteered to care for the kitten.
