OLYMPIA, Wash. — Two Kennewick lawmakers are pushing a pair of bills that would apply changes to the supervision of sexually violent predators upon their release.
Senate Bill 6301, sponsored by Sen. Matt Boehnke (R-Kennewick), and House Bill 2635 by Rep. April Connors (R-Kennewick), amends existing laws that mandate conditions to safeguard the community.
State law already requires the Department of Corrections to supervise individuals sentenced to probation for specific offenses, including those classified as sexually violent predators.
The proposed mandate would require the supervising officer be located within 50 miles of the individual’s residence.
Service providers would have to submit monthly reports to the court and other relevant agencies, confirming compliance with release conditions.
The court would then review each case annually to determine if continued conditional release is appropriate.
Both bills have been introduced in the Washington State Legislature. They await discussion in the respective communities.
