ATHOL, Idaho – The Selkirk Fire Department is stressing the importance of wearing life jackets while recreating on the region’s waterways.

This afternoon, crews were called out to Kelso Lake, north of Athol, for a water rescue involving a man who fell from a partially capsized boat, Selkirk Fire said in a release.

When the first crew arrived, the man had reached shore safely thanks to his life jacket.

Selkirk Fire said he was cold but uninjured and did not require hospital transport.

As boating season approaches, Selkirk Fire emphasizes the use of safety equipment.

Idaho requires one properly fitting USCG approved life jacket for each person on board a boat.
