Karen Worthy, visionary Spokane entrepreneur, dies at 81

SPOKANE, Wash. – Karen Worthy, a devoted educator and visionary entrepreneur, passed away peacefully on November 7, at the age of 81.

Born on May 30, 1944, in Centralia, Washington, Karen was known for her contributions to education and business. Alongside her husband, Walter B. Worthy, she founded Worthy Enterprises, a contracting and construction company.

The couple was instrumental in preserving and revitalizing the historic Davenport Hotel in Spokane. Their efforts expanded the hotel franchise, adding the 21-story Davenport Tower in 2007 and building the Davenport Grand Hotel in 2015.

According to the Spokesman Review, her remains were cremated and her ashes spread off the coast of Florida.

Karen is survived by her husband of 52 years, Walter Worthy, and her nephew and his wife, Robin and Christine Mitchell.
