SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — STEM education efforts were highlighted at Spokane Valley Tech recently with a special visit from the Natural Resources Department of the Kalispel Indian Tribe.
Last week, three wildlife professionals shared their experiences working with bears and cougars in Northeast Washington, Idaho and Western Montana.
The students had the opportunity to interact with real-life equipment, such as radio telemetry collars used for tracking wildlife.
In a hands-on learning experience, students practiced using water-filled tranquilizer darts to take down a cardboard cougar, mimicking the work of professionals in the field.
Additionally, the students met Boon, the dog who assists in tracking cougars during fieldwork.
