SPOKANE, Wash. — A Spokane County Sheriff’s K9 deputy escaped serious injury Monday night when suspects fleeing from police crashed into his patrol vehicle, according to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident occurred at 11 p.m. on March 9 near N. Whitehouse Street and W. Columbia Avenue when a black Chrysler 300 occupied by multiple males reported to be armed struck the deputy’s car, authorities said.
Spokane Police had attempted to stop the Chrysler, but the driver fled at high speed with lights off, according to police reports. The K9 deputy had positioned his patrol vehicle to assist when the suspects crashed into him while turning.
Two males exited and ran on foot. The deputy warned one suspect to stop or risk being bitten by his K9 partner. The suspect complied and was detained, while the second fled, the Sheriff’s Office said.
The deputy sustained minor injuries and his K9 partner was uninjured, according to authorities. Spokane Police continue investigating.
